The US Motor Bank is a mid-century modernist building designed by Pietro Belluschi. As the building reaches 50 years of age the question is asked 'will it be put on the national historic registry?' The building is currently 1/2 parking structure and 1/2 vacant office space. The studio project was how the revitalize the existing structure while paying respect to the time it was built in, but also bringing it into the present. I proposed a scheme that created verticality out of horizontal elements by stacking. Each module uses elements developed by the modernist movement such as piloti, ribbon windows and large open spaces used by advances in building construction systems.
